The matriarch represents wisdom, strength and the quiet leadership found within elephant herds. This piece explores the powerful yet tender bonds between female elephants, capturing a sense of resilience and understated gentleness.
By isolating the elephant’s head from its natural environment, the work also questions our tendency to objectify and consume the beauty of the natural world. Stripped of its communal identity, the elephant becomes an object of the human gaze — raising a question about what we lose when we seek to possess nature’s beauty rather than simply allow it to exist freely.
Acrylic on hand-stretched canvas.
